Variations to the curve may sometimes occur between breeds and individual bitches and non-typical readings may be obtained as shown below. Therefore each bitch should be treated individually. It is the 'profile trace' that needs to be determined as opposed to the unit value of the actual 'top figure reading' which could peak significantly above 600 or indeed somewhat lower.
However 24 hours after the peak figure is determined (which is the time when the luteinising hormone is released naturally by the bitch triggering ovulation to occur) as the readings begin to fall, is the optimal time to serve the bitch.
